Ellaquai Dehati
Bank was created in 1979 through the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) Act 1976 passed
by the Indian Parliament. With the solemn objective to reach out to the poorest
of the poor in the country, in 1976 Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi played the
champion’s role in creation of rural banks across the country.
Ellaquai Dehati Bank has the privilege of being sponsored by State Bank of
India, India’s largest bank. The bank has been established on the 16th July 1979
under the RRBs Act 1976. Our Bank has a distinction of being the only RRB in the
State to have its presence in both the divisions of the J&K State and have at
present a branch network of 107 branches spread in twelve districts of the
State.
During the year 2008-09 we have opened two branches in district Doda, one each
at Doda and Bhadarwah.
To include the state of Jammu and Kashmir into the
national agenda of catering to the banking requirements of the under privileged
classes of the society, country’s largest bank, the State Bank of India
sponsored Ellaquai Dehati Bank.
Our Bank started functioning in the Valley in 1979 with
the vision of upliftment of the poor and to provide banking facilities to those
pockets of the Valley which had remained unbanked because the commercial banks
shied away from opening branches in areas which had considerably low deposit
potentials.
While catering to the banking needs of the poor, our Bank
has also maintained its semi-urban and urban profile with branches in these
areas as well who cater to the requirements of the huge middle class of the
society.
Today, this bank has 109 branches spread across the State
of Jammu and Kashmir covering 12 districts. During the year 2008-09 we have also
extended our operations to the Doda district where two branches have already
been opened at Doda and Bhaderwah centre. |
